Dr. H. Winston Pirtle
Dr. H. Winston Pirtle has been a practicing veterinarian since he graduated from Auburn University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1967. For 33 years he practiced at his own hospital in the south Montgomery County area. During that time, he treated dogs and cats in addition to horses and cattle. He has also run a dairy farm and beef cattle farm.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Pirtle has strived to improve the quality and standards of veterinary practitioners by becoming very active in organized veterinary medicine. He has been elected as the President of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association on two different occasions. In 1987, he was appointed by the governor to the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, where he served as President until 1991. During that time, he also served as the President of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards that reports national examination scores to the jurisdiction(s) where a veterinarian desires to be licensed. That organization's members are the veterinary licensing boards for each state.
Dr. Pirtle is currently the treasurer of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association. He is also one of the Alabama delegates to the American Veterinary Medical Association, where he can present issues pertaining to the practice of veterinary medicine in Alabama.
Dr. Pirtle is a "people person." His favorite part of small animal practice is general surgery and trauma. When he is not practicing at Animal Hospital of Montgomery , Dr. Pirtle practices as a relief veterinarian throughout Alabama. He also has a very focused law practice, having been admitted to the state bar in 1999. When not practicing his two professions , Dr. Pirtle enjoys hunting , fishing , and working on the family farm in south Montgomery county.
