     Dr. Gotthelf has been using the MedRx Video Vetscope since it's inception in 1997. During that time he collected over 150 photographs of various ear disease conditions of the ear canal, the eardrum and the middle ear.  Dr. Gotthelf approached a major veterinary book publisher, Elsevier, and asked about doing a picture book of ear diseases.  The publisher wanted more information about each condition illustrated in the photos.  So he went about writing chapters on different factors that affect ear diseases in dogs and cats.  He asked many colleagues in the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology, the American College of Veterinary Dermatology, and other veterinary experts to contribute chapters for the book.
     The first edition of Small Animal Ear Diseases; An Illustrated Guide was released in the year 2000.   The book sold very well and so Dr. Gotthelf was asked to do an updated version in a second edition, which was released in 2004.  The 2nd edition has 15 contributors and over 350 illustrations.
